To prepare for the learners test the most efficient way, you need to follow 2 simple steps:
1. Get the general knowledge of all: rules of the road, road signs, regulatory signs, warning signs, guidance and information signs, road markings, traffic signals, additional signs, controls.
The first step towards obtaining your learners license is to prepare theoretically for the learners test. You can do this by reading and studying a book containing all this information. One of the most used is “Pass your learners easily”. You can buy it from shops like Pick and Pay or CNA. Average price-R 70. Our clients may borrow it from Formula 1 driving school for free as well as the tests at a cost of R 500, if they prefer to use printed version of the test.
We are in a process of preparing our own electronic book which will be available soon for free for a convenience of our clients. From the book you will inform yourself about all rules of the road, road signs, regulatory signs, warning signs, guidance and information signs, road markings, traffic signals, additional signs, controls.
Make sure that you educate yourself well about all this, to be able to deal with all different situations on the road .
You don’t have to go to great details. Just obtain a general knowledge about the matter and you will be perfectly fine.
2. Practice tests A, B, C, D, E on your computer. This tests are available on this website Free of charge.
The second step towards obtaining your learners license is to do the 5 learners tests online on your computer. This tests contain 99% of all the Q &A. They are FREE and you can access and do them on this website as many times as you like Once you decide to start doing the tests you must press the green button (Start) below.
Than you will be taken to web page where you will choose one of the 5 tests. After choosing a test by your preference, you will land on the test page where you may start doing the test.
Each test contains about 90 questions. For each question you have a choice of 3 answers. Only One of them is correct. Once you select the answer by pressing the button A,B or C the right answer will be highlighted in green and the wrong answers in red.
Complete each one of the tests. If necessary repeat many times. You are considered ready for the test if you have no more than 3 mistakes per test. I wish you good luck !

Driving Lessons
The driving lessons contain variety of actions:
- Theoretical explanation of mechanisms of driving

Test Bookings
You must book your learners test online, on NaTIS website. Select your province, and provide you details – identification type (Only ID number is accepted in Gauteng), ID number, initials and surname. At the next page, type your cellphone number twice and tick SUBMIT. On the next page it gives you an option ( single test or combination test). Next is choice of learners test type ( 1. – Motor cycle, 2 – MV not exceeding 3500 kg excluding mc, 3 – motor vehicle (excluding mc)). Once you’ve chosen the second Option, it gives you option to choose which testing station at, you want to do your test at. After your choice ( if available) and confirmation, you will get all the booking confirmation details regarding the test. Then you must confirm personally at Randburg testing station. You have 5 working days to do this. You must do the test at Randburg municipality.
Learners test booking
You have to confirm personally at the testing station.
Bring:
- ID and a copy
- 4 B/W photos (noted as X 4 in the graphic)
- R 108 Payment will be done with bank card only
Drivers test booking
You have to book personally at the testing station.
Bring:
- ID and a copy (or valid passport and traffic register number and copies for non South African citizens)
- Learners license and a copy
- Proof of residential address
- 4 B/W photos
- R 228 (Drivers booking fee)
Refresher Lessons
So you have a license, but since you Passed the test you didn’t drive for various reasons. To get back your confidence you will need 3-5 lessons in average. If the reason to avoid driving is more serious, you may need more.
The refreshing course usually includes:
- driving on variety of streets
- turning right at the robots
- taking off with pedals only
- driving on the highway
- 2 types of real parkings
- routes you will have to use often
Special help for fears of driving is available. Crash course also available. Advanced driving may be provided by request.

- Routes you will have to use often. Finally routes to work, school, shopping centres, relatives and friends need to be practiced. Doing that the driver experience situation he/she needs to deal with, but the helping hand of the instructor make them to go through with a confidence when they drive on their own.
